The Vehicle Sales Fraudsters
malpass
There is currently a fairly large fraud operation hitting many users of auto trader and other car auctioning sites. They operate under 3 separate names with call centres and seemingly working websites. They call you up and make out that they have a buyer for your car but you have to pay them £90 or similar. They appear very professional but are total fraudsters.
The Scam
It usually starts with a phone call asking about your car, its condition, asking price etc… They will then go on to say they have one or more buyers who are interested in viewing your vehicle. The catch is, before they will “send” these people out to you, they charge £90 or similar, stating that it is a one off charge for their services. They state they will pass on interested buyers indefinitely until the car is sold.
The Tricks
They may make you aware of their website and tell you to think about it, or try to trick you into thinking your car will depreciate in value very soon if you don’t get a sale; common sales tactics. The system is entirely fraud and so are the people.
Currently the only website I know of that is part of this ring is http://motorvehicleservices.com/ which has recently been taken down, however look out for similar scams and if you find any, post them on the forum or comment below.
